After having a baby, many new mothers are shocked to realize that they have retained much of their baby fat. This situation is nothing to be concerned about as very few women immediately revert back to their normal body weight after the delivery. After all, it took nine months to gain these additional pounds. There are several methods that you can use to eliminate this baby fat.

Breastfeeding
If you are trying to determine whether you should breastfeed or not, one thing that you may not be aware of is the fact that breastfeeding can cause you lose some of your baby fat. This activity can burn an additional 200 to 500 calories a day. In the long run, breastfeeding can be beneficial for both you and your baby.

Eating Right
Another step that you can take to lose baby fat is to eat right by planning healthy, well rounded meals. You should also make sure that your portions are normal sized, as you may have gotten used to the “eating for two” servings. When planning your meals, you should keep in mind that you are going to need a few additional calories to maintain the hectic schedule that a new baby demands. Again, if you are breastfeeding, you should include those additionally needed calories as well.

You should also drink ten to twelve glasses of water daily and try to eliminate soda, juices, and other beverages that are high in sugar.

Setting Up an Exercise Program
Exercise is a key element to any weight loss program, and a good work out schedule can help you to lose baby fat. Before you begin, however, you will need to get the approval of your obstetrician. With normal deliveries, the amount of time that you must wait before you can start an exercise program is six weeks. For women who have had caesarean sections, the time period is extended to eight weeks.

Once the doctor has determined that it is safe for you to begin exercising, you may want to start with some cardiovascular workouts. Walking, swimming, and aerobics are types of these workouts in which you can lose baby fat.

You may also want to try muscle strengthening exercises as well. Sit ups and crunches are a good way to tighten your abdominal muscles. Kegel exercises can be used to tighten your vagina and strengthen the vaginal wall.

Keeping a Good Self Image
If you want to lose baby fat, it is vital that you keep a positive attitude. Every woman is different and you should never compare yourself to others. Some women lose all of their pregnancy weight a week or two after delivery while others never return to their original body weight.

The worst comparison that you can make is between yourself and Hollywood mothers. These celebrities seem to be back into their regular sizes almost immediately and you may feel frustrated that you cannot do the same. You need to keep in mind is that these women’s success is based on the way they look. Many of these women have a whole team of dieticians, doctors, and personal trainers to help them lose baby fat. Many celebrities also have nannies which allow them the opportunity to spend every waking moment at the gym. If you had the resources that these women have, you would have the same results.

You should be realistic about the results of your efforts to lose baby fat and look upon every pound lost as a success.

How to Get Rid of Baby Fat

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Think Positive!

As discouraging as it is to see a jiggly belly, you have to remember what your body went through over the last nine months and that EVERY mom goes through it.

Look at yourself in the mirror everyday and thank your body for your baby and tell yourself how beautiful you are.  As cheesy as it may sound, it works!  The biggest thing is to be positive!  And just think what your body will look like in a month after you’ve lost a few pounds…exciting!

Take Advantage of the Time You DO Have

Six, ten-minute workouts can be just as effective as one 60-minute workout.  When your baby is down for a nap, use that time to get in a few sets of squats, lunges, push-ups, or sit-ups.  If you have a treadmill or stationary bike, hop on it for 10 minutes.

You’ll be amazed at how a few quick sessions will make a difference.

You can also take a walk with your baby when they’re asleep.  Take them along in a comfy stroller for a walk around the neighborhood.  Again, every little bit counts!

Nutrition, Nutrition, Nutrition

I said it three times because it’s the most important!  Proper nutrition is key especially if you’re breastfeeding.  You need to make sure that you’re getting plenty of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients for you and your baby.

You should eat lean proteins (chicken, turkey, fish), complex carbohydrates (brown rice, oatmeal), and monounsaturated fats (nuts, olive oil, avocados).

Stay away from processed sugars and fast food.  These foods are typically high in calories and low in nutrients so you’ll never feel satisfied and will end up eating more.

Consistency is Key!

To get rid of baby fat and keep it off, you have to be consistent over a long period of time.  You gained the weight over a long period of time and you need to lose it over a long period of time.  It doesn’t happen overnight or in a week.

Depending on how much you gained, it could take several weeks to several months.  That’s ok!  You will get there!  If you try to “cheat” with quick weight loss solutions (ie. pills, gimmicky diets) you will not be successful in the long run.

Take this time to learn to take care of yourself.  It’s a great opportunity to develop good habits that will be passed on to your baby.

Lose Baby Belly Fat By Starting Slow

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Lose baby belly fat by starting things off slow, but consistently.  Trust me, I KNOW you’re chomping at the bit to get rid of your baby belly, but by easing slowly into a workout and nutrition plan you set yourself up for long term success.

Even though it’s probably not what we want to hear, gaining weight slow and steady during the pregnancy is normal and healthy. When we lose the weight, it should also be slow and steady to stay healthy and for more permanent weight loss results.  You’re setting yourself up for disaster down the road by going the extreme route.

Depending on the type of birth (normal vs. c-section), it is recommended you wait 6-8 weeks before starting a vigorous weight loss program.  That doesn’t mean you should do nothing.

Start with a low-intensity, low impact exercise routine. The best exercises include walking, swimming, and yoga.  Walking is a great place to start because it’s easy and you can take your baby with you.  If you can find some time to get out of the house, swimming and yoga are great as well.

Start with a 10 minute workout and then increase the time as you become stronger and more confident.  You can also increase the speed and intensity of your workouts to burn more calories in a shorter period of time.

Also, breastfeeding is one of the best ways to lose baby weight. When breastfeeding, you can burn anywhere from 200 to 500 additional calories a day!  Plus, it’s very healthy for your baby!

Of course, the most important key is what you eat and how much you eat.  Cut back on fatty, processed foods in exchange for whole foods such as fruits, vegetables, and lean meats.  And don’t forget to drink your water!

Take action now and lose baby belly fat before summer arrives!  The warm weather will be here before we know it so start losing baby weight now!

Whatever you do, don’t take the easy way out!  Weight loss pills and cheap home gym equipment are not the answer.  Discover everything you need to know to lose baby belly fat the right way – Click Here to learn more!
